If you ask me, joy isn’t an afterthought in life – It’s one of the core elements of a purposeful and authentic existence.
When I reflect on what joy is, it’s different than happiness. It’s slower and more serene. It’s not peak energy or excitement or a destination, but rather the awe and thankfulness and ACCEPTANCE that can exist in daily micro moments, that stem from an appreciation of who we are, what’s around us, the beauty that exists practically everywhere, and the ways we’re inspired and supported on this adventure we call life. It’s in learning to slow down and be more present. It’s in doing things just for the fun of it. It’s in making more room in our lives for connection and play and creativity and SIMPLY BEING.
When I think of the moments of sheer joy in my life, they’re accompanied by a deep connection to myself, this beautiful world, and/or others. Maybe one of those exists in the moment. Maybe all three do. No matter what – the CONNECTION is key to tapping into and curating joy. For a time, from my early teens to my mid-twenties, joy seemed to evade me. And I realized (on my personal growth journey) that in large that was due to two things, 1) Being almost completely disconnected from nature, and 2) Being deeply disconnected from my truest self. The great news? I’ve since reconnected with both of those pieces. The even better news? In doing so I found my calling and now I help others do that as well – reconnect with themselves, curate joy in their lives, and do so from a truly inspired and authentic place. And the ripple effect that purpose is having on myself, those around me, and the lives that they touch is beautiful to behold.
